By 2020, Germany is expected to be one of the largest markets in terms of international travelers.
The German market stands out with a 27% increase of travels in 2012. It is the third consecutive year of growth (Source: World Tourism Organization). German tourists are not only those who travel more internationally, but they also spend the most.
The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) sees great potential in this market for the Caribbean destinations. Several studies of the German market expect an increase of travels in 2013.
For several years now, the French Saint-Martin Tourism Office led action in Germany in partnership with tourism promotion agencies such as: Atout France and the CTO.
The Tourism Office hosted a group of about 20 German travel agents in collaboration with AG Karibik (CTO’s office in Germany) and the tour operator Meier's last December.
ITB is the perfect time for the French Saint-Martin Tourism Office to meet institutional partners like Atout France and the CTO to get updates and information on the marketing actions and strategy that will be put in place on that particular market.
Carol Hay, Director of Marketing of CTO’s Europe Chapter gathered all marketing managers, directors of tourism to a working session « CTO Update meeting » during which communication recommendations were shared to improve Public Relations and informed them of the LIAT new routes.
The Tourism Office also participated in several workshops organized by Atout France Germany which will lead to press trips focusing on honeymoons, weddings, eco-tourism, sailing and more.
The Director of the Tourism Office was interviewed by CTO Media about promotional actions in collaboration with the CTO Europe Chapter and in the United States and Saint-martin feedbakc on being at ITB. This interview will be aired on several TV channels (CMC Caribbean Media Corporation Caribbean Cable Channel) and is already available on CTO’s website.
Meetings with several key media and major European tour operators such as Meier's and Dertour from Germany and tour operators and travel agents from Canada, the USA, Eastern Europe, Turkey and Russia were organized. Many foreign investors seemed interested by the destination and a first contact was made.
ITB Berlin is indeed the most important marketplace for the global travel industry.
It is a great opportunity for Saint-Martin to do business-to-business with the professionals and seduce a larger crowd of consumers.
This year at the show more than a 1500 promotional brochures on the destination were distributed.
