Saint-Martin reinforces its presence on the regional market

The Saint-Martin Tourism Office is strengthening its presence in the regional market in order to attract customers during the « low season ».
The goal is to have visitors all year round and meet their needs.

Representatives of several hotels and guesthouses on both sides of the island went to Barbados from April 10th to 13th along side the Saint-Martin and Sint-MaartenTourism Offices to promote the destination.

The delegation composed of Mercure Hotel, Joshua Guesthouse, Carl's and Son's Inn, l’Esperance Hotel, Sonesta, Holland house, Liat and Caribbean Airline met the general public and professionals for two days in order to present the destination and boast its own merits. It was also possible to buy or book tickets on the spot.

The choice of location at Limegrove lifestyle center was natural because of its high-end clientele. The Barbadian market is very accessible compared to others with daily flights on Liat and direct flights every Wednesday and Saturday on Caribbean Airlines.The clientele is generally fond of shopping and loves to party but we targeted a new clientele looking for relaxation, excursions, water sports and good food.

"Barbados is an island where surfing is practiced by many, which is another interesting point for us. Last year we also received two schools on field trips. STC-14 was held from April 15th to 18th at the Hyatt Regency, in Port of Spain Trinidad. This edition’s theme was: "Maintaining the right balance: Increased by products, partnerships and sustainable profits."
The island of Saint Martin was represented by Ms. Rollande Questel, a member of the Executive Committee of the Saint-Martin Tourism Office and member of the Territorial Council, as well as Mr. Gregory Dumel, Head of the local and regional market at the Saint-Martin Tourism Office. This CTO Conference (Caribbean Tourism Organization) highlights both the strengths of the Caribbean as a whole and the uniqueness of each island.

The speakers were chosen for their expertise:
• Jake Kheel, Ted’s grand-son of Ted, one of the great promoters of the world famous Punta Cana Resort and Club in the Dominican Republic
• Wolde Kristo
• Acolla Lewis Cameron
• Trudi Pearce
• Willard Phillips
• Shrimatee Ojah Maharaj
• Allison Godwin

Among the topics discussed were : partnership strategies to increase profitability and visitor spending, collaborating with Tour Operators to promote Sustainable Tourism products, rethinking destination development, branding and marketing for the responsible traveller.

After two days of conference the attendees were treated to a day of discovery.

After A & A Tours and Some, the Saint-Martin Tourism Office returned to Puerto Rico on April 24th for a workshop organized in partnership with Jet Blue, APAV and SOME (the two largest associations representing 180 travel agents).

During the evening, the one hundred travel agents and tour operators present were given an overview of the destination.

« A raffle ended the evening, 3 travel agents won a round trip ticket sponsored by Jet Blue and hotel stays offered by our three partners who accompanied us (Mercure Hotel, represented by BAKI and Ryhan Bakouche, The Beach Plaza, represented by Fabre Johnson - Executive Secretary, Radisson Blu, represented by Denis Herron - Director of leisure sales)

The top 10 travel agents will be selected for a Famtrip in partnership with Jet Blue, AHSM (Saint-Martin Hotel association), APAV and SOME.
