New York City/Marigot – President of the Saint-Martin Tourism Office, Mrs. Jeanne Rogers-Vanterpool, shared the spotlight with Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams during a television interview for Elite Magazine.
Rogers-Vanterpool during the interview, that focused on Saint-Martin’s high end tourism product, was able to speak about the exclusive villa accommodations in the lowlands and other parts of the French side of the island that featured luxurious amenities and rented for anywhere from $10,000 per week to $75,000 per week.
The Elite producers were interested not only in the accommodations that their readers could enjoy but also in the yachting, hiking and other activities.
The rating of hotels, restaurants and the types of spas as well as marina and private jet arrivals were among the other topics that were covered during the interview.
In the segment on investment opportunities, the President of the tourism office was asked about the specific areas and types of projects that were available to investors, especially in the tourism sector.
Mrs. Rogers-Vanterpool, in speaking to this point, outlined the new Tourism Master Plan for Saint-Martin that included the development of specific infrastructure such as ports and hotels.
In the interview she also explained that the French side was interested in maintaining its green environment and was not at all interested in heavy development. She said that under the tourism plan, criteria had been set for four and five star hotels and that the government was very particular about having those criteria respected.
Jeanne Rogers-Vanterpool, also spoke about the island’s long history of accommodating the rich and famous beginning in the 1960s when families such as the Kennedys and stars such as Sammy Davis Junior who kept a residence here. Today, she noted, celebrities such as Donald Trump and others continue to invest in the islands high end real estate. “What I think celebrities like about Saint-Martin” she said, is that they are on island and at the same time they are not on the island because nobody bothers them. They like their privacy and we respect that.”
