The Saint-Martin Tourism Office is organising a first training session on Tourism in collaboration with the CTO (Caribbean Tourism Organization) from June 15th to 20th, 2015 as part of the agreement signed in 2013 establishing Tourism as a subject in schools on the French side of the island.
Two teachers who already started teaching Tourism will follow the training conducted by Mrs. Bonita Morgan (Director, Resource Mobilization and Development) and Mrs. Sharon Ferguson (Director of Bahamas Tourism Education)
Topics discussed during this training session are the different types of tourism, overview of Tourism in Saint-Martin, climate change and Caribbean Tourism, customer service excellence, careers in Tourism and strategies for improving the teaching of Tourism in Saint-Martin. A large panel of activities and visits of key Tourism sites are also scheduled.
Training for tour guides is also scheduled on June 15th, 22nd and 23rd. The overall objective of the training is to provide the seven participants with the required knowledge, skills attitudes and confidence to provide a quality tourism experience while providing tour guiding services.
Some of the topics to be covered are overview of global, regional and national tourism, country specific knowledge, the tourism product, identifying who are our customers and understanding their needs, and customer service skills amongst others.
